It is estimated that this 4,000 ft wide crater - also known as Barringer Crater - is ~50,000 years old, and remains so well preserved due to the arid climate of the region.The impactor is known as the Canyon Diablo meteorite, and is believed to be a fragment of an iron-nickel asteroid about 150 ft in diameter.
