at Natural Bridges National Monument, giving what I would ordinarily consider appropriate advice, even at the most boisterous wedding celebration (click to enlarge to take a close look).  I recall this hand-routed sign is located on the trail somewhere beneath Kachina Bridge.  This image was snapped during a 1995 geology field trip to southeastern Utah, so perhaps it has been replaced by now.

The rustic charm is gone...

from the street signs in the town of Castle Valley (click to enlarge), ostensibly for health and safety reasons, so that emergency responders can locate themselves more quickly in our burgeoning metropolis. Still, I prefer the old ones.

It would have been ironic...

had my residence in Castle Valley been located on this lane (it's actually one off).

in southern Utah, particularly along the back roads, often serve as billboards promoting whatever one's cause/purpose/interests may be (click to enlarge). This one is unique, however, in that it wasn't additionally used as target practice and peppered with bullet holes.

commemorating the fatal landfall of a tsunami at Lapahoehoe, Hawaii, on this date in 1946. A large earthquake in the Aleutian Islands triggered the tsunami that claimed 159 lives on Hawaii. I snapped this image of the memorial during a visit to the tragic site in 2007 (click to enlarge).
