"A gallon of ethanol may require up to more than 2,100 gallons of water from farm to fuel pump, depending on the regional irrigation practice in growing corn, according to the study detailed in the April 15 issue of journal Environmental Science & Technology."And I thought "green" was good.

You should also check out the omnivores dilemma, aside from being a good read about the foods we eat and where they come from, it has a lengthy section all about industrial corn , and the use of NPK fertilizer on the environment. Apparently with industrial corn using NPK fertilizer (counting fuel etc. from tractors and all that stuff) it takes more than one calorie of fossil fuel for every one calorie of food produced.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow good book, recommend it if you haven't had a chance to read it yet
I've heard of the book but have not picked it up. Thanks for the recommendation.
