UPDATE: Here's an amazing Quicktime video furnished by the USGS and taken just days ago, looking down into the opening vent. Really, you should take a look (and it isn't Hollywood.)

ReplyDeleteP.S. I just viewed this last night from the Jagger Museum overlook, which is the best place to view the Halema`uma`u crater. It was impressively bright, bright enough that it can even be seen from the volcano house, on the other side of the rim, after midnight (I had insomnia and took a walk around 2am :) ).
