Fur seal pups...
are about as cute as can be, and here's a small crèche of them while their mothers go to sea to fish for a couple of days, then return to nurse their young:
A few of them cuddled up next to the blind, their flippers extending from under the wooden fence:
And a curious pup with the biggest eyes checks me out:

The animal pix are fantastic! Oh, those seals. Dare I ask if these animals are still being used for their fur? "Sealskin coats"? Oh yuk.
ReplyDeleteFur seal hunting is allowed under "annual subsistence harvests" for native Alaskans, significantly reduced from the unlimited and decimating harvests of decades ago. More here: http://www.fakr.noaa.gov/protectedresources/seals/fur.htm
